DE MELLO, WALMOIC CARLOS. Role of chloride ions in cardiac action and pacemaker potentials. Am. J. Physiol. 205(s) : 567-575. 1 g63.-Evidence is presented that chloride ions are able to carry an appreciable amount of electric charge through the membrane of atria1 muscle fibers, Purkinje fibers, and fibers of the S-A nodal pacemaker. An increase in the slope of diastolic depolarization of pacemaker fibers was recorded when Clwas replaced by larger anions (sulfate) in the external medium. The rate of repolarization decreased when larger anions were substituted for chloride ions, and it was increased in nitrate or bromide solutions. The anionic permeability of the cell membrane of S-A node, atria1 muscle, and Purkinje fibers seems to follow the series:

بررسی اثر مهار گیرنده رایانیدینی(RYR) بر فعالیت پیسمیکری
Background & Aim: The role of ryanodine receptor(RYR) on pacemaker activity of heart cells is controversial. Some investigators have suggested that it is obligatory, while others believe it is partial and not obligatory. The principle aim of this study was once more to characterize the role of ryanodine receptor(RyR) on the pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node(SAN) and the atrioventric...
متن کاملThe Effect of Chloride Ions Concentration on the Electrochemical Behavior of AISI 410 Stainless Steels in Simulated Concrete Pore Solution
The effect of chloride ions concentration on the electrochemical behavior of AISI 410 stainless steel in the simulated concrete pore (0.1 M NaOH + 0.1 M KOH) solution was investigated by various electrochemical methods such as Potentiodynamic polarization, Mott–Schottky analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Potentiodynamic polarization curves revealed that increasing chlori...
متن کاملShortening of the Action Potential and Reduction of Pacemaker Activity by Lidocaine, Quinidine, and Procainamide in Sheep Cardiac Purkinje Fibers
The ionic mechanism underlying the shortening of the action potential and the reduction in pacemaker activity by lidocaine, quinidine, and procainamide in sheep cardiac Purkinje fibers was investigated using the two-microelectrode voltage clamp technique. In the presence of lidocaine (1.85 to 3.7 x 10"M), steady state currents were shifted outward over a broad range of potentials. In contrast, ...
متن کاملErosive Pressure Dermatitis Associated with Cardiac Pacemaker
Erosive dermatitis is a skin reaction associated with implantable cardiac devices (ie, pacemakers and cardioverter defibrillators). We report a 65-year-old man with a history of several cerebrovascular attacks who developed an erythematous crusted erosive patch over the pacemaker site after implantation of two subsequent pacemakers. We suggest that physical irritation may be a trigger factor fo...
